About Lia Hege

Born and raised in Mattoon, I met my future husband, Erik, bowling during my last year of college at the University of Illinois. After establishing roots in Champaign with our wedding in 1997, we were blessed with 5 beautiful daughters: Bri, Becca, Cara, Colleen, and Alexis. My hobbies include exploring the national parks system, watching sports, and experimenting with DYI crafts. Also, I am pleased to serve as an executive board member of the Fire Foundation of Central Illinois as well as a Circle of Love chair for the Catholic Daughters Court of Champaign County.

In August of 1993, I taught my first lesson as an undergrad teaching assistant at UIUC. Since earning my degree and joining Thrivent, my vocations have been three-fold: wife to Erik, stay-at-home mom for 13 years, and public/parochial high school science teacher for 13 years. I have always been drawn to the corporal works of mercy through grass-roots organizations like Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and our local St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantries and particularly enjoy conversations with my clients that involve ways to help people and organizations that are dear to them.

In addition, I can help you explore the considerations of planning for a child with special needs so you can feel confident your plan will continue to meet your child’s needs—while you’re alive and after you’ve passed away.
