About Trisha Ibe
My Money Journey
At 16, I landed my first job as a busser at my favorite local restaurant. This job wasn’t just about earning money—it sparked a sense of independence and ambition. I worked hard and started learning the value of a dollar. It was my first taste of adult responsibility, and I was hooked.
When I turned 18, my mom (a financial queen herself) encouraged me to do two things: attend community college and open a Roth IRA—two of the best financial moves a young person can make. I had the opportunity to go to school for free, continue waiting tables, and live at home with minimal expenses. This allowed me to increase my savings and build up my Roth IRA contributions. However, when I checked it two years later, I realized I hadn’t actually invested the money at all. It was the same amount I had initially contributed. Instead of going to my mom for help, I turned to my boyfriend at the time, who swore he knew exactly where I should invest based on his favorite YouTuber’s recommendations. As a gullible 18-year-old who didn’t know much about the stock market, I followed his lead. As you can probably guess, I ended up losing almost all of my investment. Although it didn’t feel good to lose my money, it taught me some valuable lessons and sparked my interest in learning about investing.
At 20, after replenishing the money I lost a few years earlier, I was able to jump on opportunities to travel. When I finished my associate’s degree, I had no interest in going to a big school far away. I wanted to stay local, keep working, and keep traveling. So, I did. I went to Bradley University and finished my undergrad. Those experiences sparked a love for exploration and opened my eyes to how smart money management could give me the freedom to live the life I wanted.
At 22, after graduation, I connected with an old family friend who ran a successful financial advising business at Thrivent. He thought I’d be a great addition to his team. I loved everything about the job and the company, but my travel bug made me feel like I was missing out on living in a new, big city while I was young. I thought, “If not now, when?” So, I made the decision to leave the Thrivent offer behind and take a chance on a new adventure. I packed up my car and moved to Nashville. Although I didn’t make it big with my country music career, I had a blast in Music City. Over time, though, I realized I was more passionate about building a future at Thrivent than living in a big city. So, I said goodbye to honky-tonks and rolling hills and hello to a career where I could make a real impact.
Now, at 25, after two years in the business, I get more and more excited every day about helping people take control of their financial futures. Financial advising isn’t just for the wealthy or the seasoned—it’s for everyone, no matter where you are in life. Whether you’re just starting out at 18, opening a Roth IRA for the first time, or enjoying financial clarity that comes with planning for a comfortable retirement, I’m here to help you navigate the journey.
I’m passionate about making finance approachable, relatable, and empowering. Together, we’ll work on strategies that put more money in your pocket, protect your future, and ensure your hard-earned cash works as hard as you do. Life’s too short to let finances hold you back—let’s make sure you’re on the path to living the life you’ve always dreamed of, with more freedom, security, and confidence along the way. And trust me, it’s never too early (or too late) to start!
