I often get asked if my approach to financial planning is a form of the FIRE method (financial independence, retire early). While there are similarities, fundamentally I’m different. So What’s similar? First, I appreciate the spirit behind becoming financially independent, on a quicker timeline. All for that! Second, I appreciate the discipline and the systems it takes to achieve economic independence. This stuff takes work. I can also jive somewhat with the “work optional” goal. But I differ significantly around the definitions for “independence” and “retirement”, and the why and the how behind it all. First, I’m reframing the concept of retirement with fulfillment. I want to help people build a life they don’t want to retire from. Second, I want people to enjoy life fully now WHILE building independent assets - producing towards wealth instead of pinching towards wealth. Third, I don’t want people to escape from “work”; I want them to discover and apply their God-given purpose as long as they can. There are a lot of FIRE variations, and maybe you think I’m closer to it. I’d love to hear your thoughts - schedule a FIRE CHAT with me on my home page.
