Why I do what I do.

I live in Rutherford County Tennessee with my wife of 14 years, my four amazing children, 1 dog, 1 cat, and a host of backyard chickens and ducks.

When I am not "on the clock" or getting my animal husbandry merit badge, I prioritize my family, friends, and my church. I love my career because it gives me the opportunity to do something meaningful with my life while being able to be an active presence in the lives of my family and my community.

How did I find Thrivent?

Great question. In May of 2020 our family dynamic was forever changed by the arrival of our youngest, Josephine Grace. She spent two months in the NICU where we learned that she had a rare genetic disorder that resulted in some physical challenges for her to overcome. As parents this was a scary time, but we had a community of people that surrounded us with prayer and blessings.

Josie overcomes so much adversity every day. She is a big part of my desire to help people tackle the very same challenges we walk through daily.

These three girls—and their brother who isn’t pictured—are a big part of why I do what I do. Years ago, I changed careers because I wanted more. My income was capped. My opportunities for growth were limited. And when I looked at my family, I knew I wanted to build a life for them that my career at the time simply wasn’t going to allow me to build. So I took a risk on myself. And that’s something I hope my kids learn from watching me: Sometimes the best thing you can do for your future is the thing that scares you a little bit. But somewhere along the way, this career became about much more than what it could provide for my family. I’ve sat across from a woman who had just lost her husband and suddenly had to make financial decisions he had always handled. I’ve helped young families navigate debt and begin believing their financial future could look different. Those moments changed the way I viewed this work. And now, as a leader, I get to help other people discover what might be possible for them. I don’t recruit people into a career. I invite them to take a chance on the person they can become—and then I help them believe it’s possible. That might mean building a life with more opportunity for their family. Finding work that has more meaning. Discovering abilities they didn’t know they had. Or simply realizing they don’t have to accept the limits they’ve placed on themselves. Because I remember what it felt like to wonder, “Could I actually do this?” Someone helped me believe I could. Now I get to do that for someone else. So if you’ve found yourself wanting more—more opportunity, more growth, more meaning, or the chance to find out what you’re really capable of—maybe it’s worth having a conversation. Sometimes taking a chance on yourself changes more than your career. Sometimes it changes what’s possible for the people you’re doing it all for.
