Meet Hannah Magrum, CFP®, ChSNC®, CLTC®, AA™

As a Chartered Special Needs Consultant® (ChSNC®), Hannah Magrum specializes in financial planning for individuals with disabilities, people living with chronic health conditions, and families navigating complex care and public benefit systems. Her practice is grounded in both professional expertise and personal experience. As a parent of a medically complex child and an adult living with a mobility disability, Hannah understands the emotional, financial, and logistical challenges that can come with planning for a life that does not follow a traditional path.

Based in Medina, Ohio, Hannah works virtually with clients across the country, providing comprehensive, person-centered guidance tailored to each family’s unique circumstances. She also serves on the board of a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing integrated housing solutions and creating stable, accessible living options for individuals with disabilities.

Beyond her advisory work, Hannah is a frequent speaker at conferences and educational workshops, a podcast guest, and a magazine contributor. She has also shared her personal experience of being matched with her service dog, Robbie. Hannah is deeply committed to serving her community and regularly volunteers her time to support programs that empower individuals with disabilities and their families.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • Coordinating government benefits with private financial resources
  • Funding and maintaining Special Needs Trusts and ABLE accounts
  • Retirement planning for three or more—balancing caregivers’ retirement goals with the lifelong support needs of a loved one with a disability
  • Housing and long-term care planning for adults with disabilities
  • Medicaid waiver strategies and caregiver compensation
  • Navigating guardianship, supported decision-making, and successor planning
  • Planning for aging caregivers and future transitions
  • Tax-aware strategies for families with dependents with disabilities

When a strategy involves legal or tax considerations, Hannah collaborates closely with each client’s chosen attorney or CPA to help ensure the plan is implemented appropriately and coordinated across the client’s broader professional team.

Hannah is married, a proud mother of three, and shares her life and work with her service dog, Robbie. Whether through education, financial planning, or direct client support, she is passionate about helping families move forward with greater clarity, purpose, and confidence.

The person at the center of the plan should also remain at the center of the conversation. For individuals with disabilities and their families, meaningful planning extends far beyond account balances. It means understanding: • What makes daily life work • Which relationships and supports matter most • How housing, benefits, caregiving, and financial resources fit together • What a fulfilling future looks like for the individual—not just for everyone planning around them No plan can anticipate every change. But thoughtful, person-centered planning can help families make informed decisions today while continuing to adapt as life evolves. Even in a galaxy far, far away, Robbie is still on duty. 🌌🐾 This photo from our family trip last December captures so much of what I value: time together, accessible experiences, and the people and supports that help make meaningful moments possible. Living with a disability—and parenting a medically complex child—has taught me that every family experiences the world differently. The best support begins with listening, understanding the full picture, and respecting what matters most to the people in front of you. That perspective shapes how I approach my work every day. For this particular day, however, the most important decision was who got to hold the lightsabers. 😊 Hannah, her husband, their three children, and her black Labrador service dog, Robbie, pose with the Mandalorian and Grogu during a family visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. #Accessibility #Inclusion #ServiceDog #FamilyTravel #PurposeDrivenWork #StarWars

July is Disability Pride Month—a time to recognize disability as a natural part of human diversity and to celebrate the strength, identity, and contributions of the disability community. For me, disability pride does not mean pretending that disability is always easy. There are challenges, frustrations, and logistics that many people never see. Pride means knowing that those realities do not diminish my value, my abilities, or the fullness of my life. My disability has shaped how I move through the world, raise my family, and serve my clients. My wheelchair gives me greater freedom and access, while my service dog, Robbie, is both a trusted working partner and a very special part of our family. My lived experience is also deeply connected to the work I do. It has shown me how much access, thoughtful planning, and the right support can affect a person’s ability to live with greater choice, security, and confidence. Disability pride means being fully seen—not in spite of disability, but as a whole person whose disability is one meaningful part of their story. Happy Disability Pride Month. ❤️💛🤍💙💚 Hannah sits in her power wheelchair and reaches toward Robbie, her black Labrador service dog, outside a red building. #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #Accessibility #Inclusion #ServiceDog #DisabledAndProud
