About Alan Writer
I am a holistic financial professional and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNING™ practitioner with deep expertise in investments, insurance, estate planning, tax efficiency strategy, and all things retirement planning related.
For the past 20 years and going strong, I have worked with clients across Washington and Alaska in this helping profession.
My clients often work for local Seattle area employers including Boeing, Microsoft, T Mobile, Alaska Airlines, Auburn Schools, and many others. Some clients are self-employed, and many have happily transitioned to retirement.
Born to a teacher and small business owner and veteran, I was raised about 30 minutes south of the Canadian border in the college town of Bellingham, WA. After spending a few years for college in Arizona, some time in Snohomish county, and a short stay in Alaska, I ended up in the Covington/Maple Valley, WA area where I am married with 2 children.
I wanted to be in the financial industry as far back as I remember. As a young child and with zero prompting from my parents, I was fascinated by the stock market and desired to become “series 7 licensed stockbroker.” While I did end up achieving that “series 7 license”, I learned later that financial planning is so much more than just investing.
As a child, I watched my family make some good financial choices and ones that would later cause heart ache and pain. Some of these choices may have been better with the right trusted advice. I hope to help people learn from these lessons and childhood observations.
After graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in economics and strong coursework in business, I joined Thrivent Financial in the summer of 2004. While I was attending college, I had spent time as a licensed intern with major financial services company where I first got exposed to this personally rewarding industry.
I was attracted to Thrivent because of the Christian values and the viewing of money more as a tool as opposed to a destination itself.
In my free time during the winter months, you might spot me on the chair lift with my daughter at Crystal Mountain, WA or in Whistler, BC. Ski season always ends too soon.
In the summers, I enjoy tennis, salmon fishing and all things on the water.
I also enjoy a good movie, too much coffee, red wine with friends, and college basketball. Go ARIZONA CATS!
I look forward to meeting you and learning about your "WHY"
