My relationship with Thrivent:

 

5 days-old; that was my age when my parents worked with their Thrivent Representative for insurance protection for me. Of course, they knew that we never get any younger, never have access to less expensive cover, and can never know if we will be affected by an illness or accident in the future.

 

My whole life I knew of Thrivent and their support, but 10 years ago saw how deeply committed they were to family, my family. I became my parent’s Trustee and support in their later years. I flew out to California every 3 months or so and took them to medical appointments, met with their tax advisor, arranged maintenance for their home and other needs.

 

Often during my trips, I would find Jay Huckabone, their Thrivent Rep, sitting with them and having a coffee, having a chat, and just showing them he cared. He never discussed finances with them, as this was taken care by me, but gave them something more precious; the gift of his time.

 

He had helped them with arranging their finances so that they had all of their financial arrangements taken care of – protection, investments to support their needs, and long-term care for later years. He even counseled that they should talk with an expert outside advisor (lawyer) in the creation of a Walp Family Trust – which made my eventual winding up of their Estate a smooth process with minimal taxes, no probate, and few headaches.

 

Fast forward to today and I am a Thrivent Financial Representative myself. Throughout my life, I have had notices that Thrivent were hosting educational workshops on many areas of finance. In this Covid era, I responded to one invitation on the topic of taxation in retirement. It was an eye-opener. At the end, they asked for input on how it was for the attendees. Was the content appropriate, was it well presented and clear, was it useful? The last question was whether I would like to talk with Thrivent about working with them, which obviously, as I am here today, was a resounding yes!

 

I love working with families, and to be able to pay-forward the decades of love and care provided to me and my family by many Thrivent representatives, is incredibly satisfying. I look forward to talking with you soon!
