Our story

In some ways, Thrivent has always been a part of Scott Schaefer’s life. He remembers his parents being members of Association for Lutherans (AAL) when he was young, which later merged with Lutheran Brotherhood to become Thrivent. Scott even recalls AAL sponsoring events at his church while he was growing up.  

 After graduating from college, Scott sold real estate in California for a while until finding out his mom had terminal cancer. He then moved back to Oklahoma, and a few months later sat in on a meeting with his dad and an AAL representative about his parents’ estate. The representative saw potential in Scott and encouraged him to join the AAL team.  

Scott began working for AAL in 1991 and never looked back. This career has been a natural fit for him, as he loves building long-term relationships with clients and helping them make the most of all they’ve been given.  

In 2016, Scott’s son, Preston, graduated from college and began working with him. Together, they built The Schaefer Financial Group. Like his father, Preston finds helping clients to be extremely fulfilling and is dedicated to delivering the customized strategies and attentive service they deserve.  

The Schaefer Financial Group is rounded out by Preston’s wife, Zoe, who serves as the office manager and marketing coordinator and Chris Porter who serves as our office professional. Forming close relationships with clients is so important to this team because of their desire to help others like they would their own family.
