I was born into a farming family during the farm crisis of the 1980s. Like many families during that time, mine was deeply affected. Shortly after I was born, my family left farming, giving me an early appreciation for how economic events and financial hardship can change the course of a family's life.
My own financial education came the hard way.
In my early twenties, I accumulated significant student debt while pursuing a career in education. It wasn't until later that I truly understood the math behind those decisions. I quickly realized I had taken on a mountain of debt without a clear path to paying it off.
Determined to change that, I spent the next ten years working my way out. While teaching full-time, I also worked a second job and committed myself to learning everything I could about personal finance, budgeting, debt repayment, and long-term financial planning. Those years taught me lessons that no textbook ever could. I learned what it feels like to be overwhelmed, what discipline looks like in practice, and how powerful a solid financial plan can be.
During my 20-year career in education, I became involved in labor negotiations and found myself increasingly drawn to the financial side of the work. Analyzing proposals, understanding budgets, evaluating long-term impacts, and helping others understand the numbers became some of my favorite responsibilities. In the final years of my education career, I played a significant role in negotiations and discovered that finance was more than an interest. It was something I genuinely loved.
The deeper I became involved in financial planning and analysis, the more I realized I had found a calling that matched both my skills and my passion.
My years in education also taught me an important lesson about markets and life in general: today's crisis does not last forever. Schools face challenges. Communities face challenges. Families face challenges. Markets face challenges. History has repeatedly shown that difficult seasons eventually pass, and people who stay focused on their long-term goals are often rewarded for their patience and perseverance.
Today, I bring together the perspective of someone who has experienced financial struggle, the heart of an educator who believes in helping people understand their options, and the discipline of someone who knows the value of a long-term plan. My goal is simple: to help individuals and families make informed financial decisions, navigate uncertainty with confidence, and build a future that aligns with what matters most to them.
Because financial success isn't about being perfect. It's about having a plan, staying disciplined, and continuing to move forward, even when the road isn't easy.
If you've ever felt overwhelmed by debt, uncertain about your financial future, or simply wished you had someone to help you make sense of it all, you're not alone. I've been there myself. That's why I'm passionate about helping others create a plan, build confidence, and move forward. If you're ready to start the conversation, I'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
