Saving for retirement? Here’s something to consider: different accounts come with different tax implications.
By spreading your savings across taxable, tax-deferred and tax-free accounts, you can give yourself more flexibility in retirement. This makes it easier for you to manage withdrawals, avoid tax spikes and lower your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI).
Get in touch to discuss the right approach for your unique situation.

I Have Cancer… But I’m Very Thankful
After feeling run down for several weeks, I called my cardiologist’s office on Thursday, September 25th, with an elevated heart rate. They advised me to go to the emergency room immediately. To make a long story short, 12 hours later, I was tentatively diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. It wasn’t until the following Wednesday, after a biopsy, that I received a more specific diagnosis: follicular lymphoma.
Prayers were already being answered. If I had to have cancer, follicular lymphoma is the best kind to have. With the right treatment—six rounds of chemotherapy in my case—the prognosis is excellent, with the likelihood of remission and living a normal life.
Why Am I Thankful?
I’m incredibly grateful for my support system, starting with my wife and family. Claudia, my wife of 45 years, has been the center of my care—my rock and my subject matter expert. Together, we’re facing this challenge head-on. Of course, all my kids came home immediately (even though they were told not to) because they wanted to be reassured that we would get through this together. I’m also thankful for my skilled medical team from Princeton Medical Group and Sloan Kettering, who are taking the right approach to develop a custom treatment plan for me.
I’m grateful to be living in a time when effective therapies are available for this disease. Just 50 years ago, the best outcome anyone could hope for was 8-10 years, and that often involved intense radiation treatment.
I’m also thankful for the strong team I’ve built at Thrivent and Legacy Capital Associates over the past several years. Thanks to them, my practice continues to run smoothly despite my unplanned absence. It’s important to me that all of my members are being well taken care of during this time.
Finally, I’m deeply thankful for the many prayers that have been lifted up for me. I believe those prayers are already being answered. We are very confident that the most likely outcome of my treatment will be remission and, with it, a full and abundant life. As a result, I’m looking forward to my son’s wedding, the graduations of both of my sons from college next year and watching my granddaughter grow up. I also look forward to returning next month to continue serving my members.
Happy Thanksgiving and may God bless you and your family.

While spontaneous giving can be meaningful, a strategic approach can help you amplify your generosity, minimize your tax burden and give with greater purpose.
Consider these charitable giving strategies: https://bit.ly/3IZ1x9f
Being able to support the causes you care about can be one of the most meaningful parts of your financial journey. A donor-advised fund (DAF) may help you extend that impact even further.
A DAF enables you to make charitable contributions now and qualify for a tax deduction, while recommending grants to your favorite charities on your own timeline. Over time, your fund may grow, creating even more dollars to give.
