About Mark Owens

Who I Am

I spent more than a decade as a professor teaching Bible and Theology at Christian universities. Those years shaped how I see people - as individuals with unique stories, convictions, and aspirations. Today, I bring that same perspective to my work as a financial advisor with Thrivent. I know firsthand the value of wise financial guidance. That experience motivates me to help clients gain greater understanding and confidence as they navigate financial decisions.

Working Together

Two words capture my approach to financial advising: relational and supportive. When clients work with me, they can expect thoughtful conversation, clear education, and practical guidance. Financial decisions often involve more than numbers; they can carry emotions, hopes, uncertainties, and important life transitions. My goal is to create an environment where clients feel heard, informed, and better equipped as they make decisions about their future.

While I work with individuals and families from many walks of life, I have a strong desire to help young professionals, educators, and small business owners navigate important financial decisions and build a strong foundation to support the future. Whether someone is just getting started, preparing for retirement, protecting loved ones, or planning a legacy, I strive to help them make financial choices that support both their goals and the kind of life they hope to build.

How I Think About Money

I believe money is more than a financial resource. It is a tool that can support the priorities and values that matter most to us. While identifying financial goals is important, I also encourage clients to think about the habits, priorities, and virtues they want to cultivate over time. Financial planning is not only about accumulating wealth or reaching milestones; it is about aligning resources with deeply held values and using them purposefully. My background in theology shapes my approach to financial planning, allowing me to help clients connect financial decisions to their values, relationships, and God’s vision of the good life. In this way, money becomes a means to support what matters most: caring for family, serving others, contributing to causes and communities that reflect our convictions, and becoming the people we are called to be.

Why I Joined Thrivent

I joined Thrivent because its mission reflects many of the values that drew me to financial advising in the first place. In addition to helping people build confidence in their financial future, Thrivent empowers clients to live generously by supporting their communities and the causes that they care about. I am grateful for the opportunity to help clients steward their time, talents, and resources in ways that benefit the people and causes they care about most.

Let's Start a Conversation

Whether you're facing a major life transition, preparing for retirement, or simply looking for greater clarity about your financial future, I'd welcome the opportunity to get to know you. Meaningful financial planning begins with understanding what matters most to you and exploring how your resources can support not only the life you want to live, but also the person you hope to become. If that sounds like a conversation worth having, I'd be honored to connect.
