At Thrivent, we talk a lot about "Live Generously," but it's not all talk... Last night, I was able to experience a full-circle moment. I had the opportunity to serve NICU families at Le Bonheur. I cannot thank Khadija Craine, with our Thrivent Engagement Team, and my colleague, Brad Bosi, enough for their help and support in hosting this dinner. You see, it was two years ago that I was a NICU family. As we began to understand what Walker's future would look like, I began digging into what resources were available for families like mine. Needless to say, I struggled. So, I took a leap of faith. I decided to become a resource and join Thrivent full-time. A part of what I get to do is help families like mine understand their benefits, how those benefits work with their income/assets, planning for their futures, and also connecting them with other resources and non-profits. When we were in the NICU two years ago, our community truly poured into us. I will never be able to repay them for what all they did, but I sure am happy to be able to pay it forward. Please pray for the families that are there now. I know they can certainly use it!

As 2025 comes to an end, I cannot help but reflect not only on this year but the last 2 years. See, 2024 nearly broke me… I don’t talk about that part of it much, but it’s true. Walker’s journey in those first 9 months of life was scary to say the least. Full of ups and downs… twists and turns… truly a roller coaster ride of emotions. I will not forget the night I fell to my knees and cried out to God. I prayed for strength… the strength to keep moving forward… the strength to be there for Walker and Mandy… the strength to make sure Presley, Faith, and Will all felt heard and seen… the strength to keep my family together despite basically living in two sperate places most of the year… For the first time, I truly gave up trying to be in control and gave it to God. As most do in these situations, I asked for a sign… a small sign just to know that He heard me…. He responded immediately that evening. A friend pulled me to the side and told me how proud he was of my resolve… he didn’t know about earlier… I knew immediately God was there saying, “I’ve got you.” That moment would begin to shape the rest of 2024 and 2025. I began to take leaps of faith with my career. Working full-time and getting licensed. For 6 months, I averaged 4-5 hours of sleep each night. God provided the strength I needed. Coming into 2025, our medical team wasn’t sure what Walker’s journey would look like. He was clearly behind on his development. We weren’t sure if Walker was going to be able to crawl. Would he ever be able to stand or walk? 2025 has been filled with an overwhelming number of appointments, including trips to Vanderbilt and Philadelphia. Yes, it was difficult, but God… God continued to provide. Walker crawled… Walker stood… Walker walks with assistance… God continues to provide the strength we need. Plenty of days have passed where I wondered how Mandy can keep going, how Walker continues to do everything with his big smile, and how can I continue to shoulder the burden. I cannot count the times I have heard someone say “I don’t know how you do it,” but there’s no doubt that God continues to lift us up. If 2025 has taught me anything, it is that God is in control. I have learned to relinquish the control and have faith that He will provide. All I have to do is keep waking up, keep pushing forward, and continue to give Him the glory. 2024 nearly broke me… 2025 gave me strength and purpose… so, here’s to 2026! "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10

Let's get a little vulnerable today... Here's more of our story: A little over four years ago, Mandy started having some weird health issues. As time went on, things progressed. Doctor after doctor after doctor and still no answers... her situation progressed until her lower back hurt so bad that she could not walk. We found a chiropractor who would work with her. He loaned a wheelchair to help get her around to all of her appointments and began seeing her twice a day, even on days when his facilities were typically closed. After weeks of this, Mandy was starting to feel some of the pressure relieved and we eventually found out about her autoimmune disorders. This took about 6 months from the start of her symptoms... With her new diagnosis, medications began to change. During this time, we found out she was pregnant. Although we had not planned this, we knew this was a God thing. With Mandy's health issues, this was considered a high risk pregnancy... if that wasn't enough, we soon found out we were expecting twins! A few weeks later, we lost one and Mandy's body started having Braxton-Hicks Contractions quite often... sometimes 60-70 a day and we were just getting into the second trimester. Mandy was then put on at home bed rest. Needless to say, this impacted my job as I was told by her doctors that I should not travel outside of Memphis in case something were to happen. After 8 months of pregnancy, Walker was born due to complications. He spent 7.5 months in the NICU before he ever came home. He went through multiple surgeries. We have searched high and wide to find doctors who could help. After nearly 20 months of working with multiple hospitals, we just found out that they believe he has an ultrarare genetic disorder (his lab work triggered a match in a highly respected hospital). Since the start of Mandy's health issues until now, I have faced multiple job changes. I have seen how difficult it can be to find resources to help. I have been hit again, and again, and again... but God continues to give me strength and blessings, and has led me to where I am supposed to be... here at Thrivent helping serve others. If you have experienced hardships, I want you to know that there is a way forward. Working with the right financial planner can make a world of difference. No, I cannot predict what's coming... I cannot guarantee that you won't face hardships... as a matter of fact, you most likely will at some point. What I can do though is help you prepare a solid foundation for when these events arise. If you have gone through or are currently going through a tough situation, do not hesitate to call! I HAVE BEEN THERE!
