Faith Through Fire House
After Brock’s wife Kristi received the life-altering diagnosis of breast cancer, the Howard family found comfort in a community of survivors to come alongside them for support, encouragement, reassurance, and rest. Faith Through Fire is a nonprofit breast cancer support group whose mission is “to reduce the anxiety and fear that breast cancer patients feel and replace it with hope and a path toward thriving.”
Seeing a need for others to experience that same love and support, Gateway Financial Group has partnered with Faith Through Fire to promote awareness and provide beneficial resources to families undergoing the rigors of cancer treatments. Faith Through Fire provides mentors to the newly diagnosed to help them endure the demands of chemotherapy. They also provide children with Build-A-Bear toys to give them a tangible source of comfort. Helpful and informational podcasts are also produced, and a gorgeous respite house in Innsbrook, Missouri, has been constructed for women with stage 4 or metastatic breast cancer to find peace and rest.
In May 2022, Thrivent sponsored the unveiling of Faith Through Fire’s respite house. Guests were invited to enjoy a sunny afternoon luncheon, complete with live music, raffles, local vendors, and giveaways. Shuttle buses took groups of attendees to tour the serene and fully furnished house. The Derby-style event raised over $10,000, which has already been utilized to welcome several families to the respite house.
