Action Teams can make a big difference to a non-profit project, like the one at Mandarin Museum & Historical Society.
Two years ago, a bronze statue of Harriet Beecher Stowe was commissioned and two young boys, in honor of the many contributions the Stowes made to the Mandarin community during their 17 winters here. The statue represents Mrs. Stowe, in her orange grove, sitting down with two young boys who are picking oranges with their families. The sat down for a break and she came out and is encouraging them to attend the new schoolhouse that she helped build, the first in that area. That schoolhouse building was built in 1872, and it still stands today as the Mandarin Community Club.
The action team was used for some landscaping around the statue. Tracey and Sandy Arpen and two Master Gardeners volunteered to buy the plants and plant them with mulching as well. The entire area looks beautiful now and is a very popular, educational and interesting photo spot for visitors to Walter Jones Historical Park. See thrivent.com/social for important disclosures
