Growing up, I was taught to respect others, work hard, and save for the future. As I got older, those values deepened, shaped by lessons in perseverance and faith. They’re what led me to find my true calling in financial advising—a journey that began unexpectedly while I was working as a Civil Engineer.
I had a secure job with excellent benefits, but I felt a void. I realized I wanted a career where I could make a real impact on people’s lives. When a friend’s dad came over to discuss life insurance and financial planning, I felt inspired. The importance of that work became clear, and so did my path. In December of 2000, I joined Thrivent, and I still feel as excited and energized to guide my clients as I did on my first day. Every day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to build lasting relationships with clients and help them make the financial choices that bring financial confidence and purpose. I believe planning isn’t just about numbers—it’s about giving people a framework to move forward, as they aspire to a
work-optional lifestyle. The end result in a sense of clarity and contentment. I purposefully walk side-by-side with my clients on their financial journey that is grounded in values and purpose.
Outside of my career, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Shawnae, our daughters, Emma and Madi, and our crazy, energetic, yellow lab, Daisy. When I’m not working or volunteering, I love traveling and being outdoors—fly fishing, hiking, camping, or simply relaxing on a warm beach. These are the moments that remind me of what really matters: family, community, and living a life of generosity.

Dressed up in my Sunday best, polyester slacks, stiff white shirt, a clip-on-tie — scratchy clothes for a five-year-old — dad handed me a dime. “Here’s your offering for Sunday School.” This memory provides a snapshot of who I am today.
Weekly worship revealed to me that my life is not my own. As Jesus taught in the parable of the talents, I am a steward of all that I have – my relationships, my gifts and abilities, my health, my possessions – with an accountability and an expectation of handing over returns to the Owner of all. Working with clients is a stewardship. I am accountable to them, but more even sobering, to the One who made me His own.
That little boy also learned the value and aim of education. Sunday School was the space where I was taught universal truths, but also a space where I could question and debate with the aim that these truths became my own. This is my aim. I want my clients to own the “why” behind their financial decisions.
Finally, that dime my father handed me was more valuable than 10 cents. The giving of that dime tapped into a paradox of being alive, a paradox Jesus taught and lived. To die to self is to live. When I released that dime into the offering box, it tangibly taught my selfish soul how giving creates the joy of living. My prayer is that my clients experience the joy of that paradox.
That simple snapshot of a five-year-old has shaped whatever God has called me to ever since, first as a pastor of over 25 years, as a fundraiser and head of school of two classical Christian schools and now working with Thrivent clients. It is what forms me as a father of four and a grandfather of four. It is whom I am with Tamra, my wife of 37 years. It informs what I do when I’m not in my office such as on a hiking trail, in a coffee shop, with a good book or playing with trains.

I’m a passionate, creative writer and proud mom to my adventurous two-year-old son, Hendrix. I studied Creative Writing at San Francisco State University, where I discovered the joy of storytelling’s power to engage and connect us all. I hope to pass on this love for storytelling to my son, and to inspire you, my readers, to find your own unique stories to share.
As a mom, I cherish the time I spend with my little one exploring the wild beauty of California. The rugged trails, the charming farms, and the untamed nature—every adventure brings us closer together. I love watching his curiosity blossom as we discover new places together, and I aim to instill in him a love for the awe-inspiring beauty of nature and exploration from an early age.
Balancing my creative pursuits with motherhood is a rewarding challenge. Each day, I draw inspiration from our shared experiences, which fuels my writing and enriches my perspective. I believe every moment—big or small—holds a story worth telling.
In addition to my creative endeavors, I love my job as an Office Professional for Tim Blandford. The role allows me to work in a dynamic environment where I can contribute to meaningful projects while honing my organizational and creativity skills. I appreciate the collaborative atmosphere and the supportive team, which make every day enjoyable and fulfilling. This supportive environment complements my writing and parenting and provides a secure and motivating space for me to nurture my passions while staying connected with a professional community.
