A Thrivent Action Team was used to support a cooking class for Head Start families where they learned to cook easy, delicious and nutritious meals. The event was taught by MSU Extension in partnership with Helena Food Share! Each family that participated was given a crockpot, cookbook and ingredients to make a yummy dish at home - what a great project!

We were thrilled to come alongside the Montana Foster Closet to help shop for and build “First Night Kits” with age-appropriate items that caseworkers can take with a child who has been removed from their home and placed into Foster Care. Thank you to all who donated items and their time!

Did you know the Montana Foster Closet provides resources for at-risk children? These children are often placed into foster care during immediate/emergency situations and often without basic clothing, pajamas, diapers, a coat or shoes. That is where the volunteer run Foster Closet comes in. They provide an opportunity to “shop” for needed items so children from newborns to teens can transition to a foster home with their immediate, tangible needs met. Currently, the Foster Closet needs small packages of diapers of all sizes, new clothing, socks and underwear for kids of all ages. If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring them to my office at 2600 Winne Avenue in Helena, by Monday, October 20th. We are here Monday thru Thursday from 8am to 5pm but we do close for lunch from 12-1pm and don’t want to miss you.

We had a blast at Echo Church's Back to School Bash - handing out backpacks to hundreds of Helena area school children! The festivities included free haircuts, stocked backpacks, a huge thrift store, carnival games, food trucks, face painting and much more. Thank you to all of the volunteers and donors who helped kids celebrate the beginning of a new school year!

Period poverty A Thrivent Action Team wanted to raise awareness about the issues of period poverty where individuals lack access to menstrual products due to financial constraints. They worked together and gathered donations of discrete reusable bags, tampons, liners, pads, personal wipes, hand sanitizer, chocolate and tea. They then assembled 319 kits and delivered them to 10 different communities across Montana to be distributed to local schools and shelters for girls and women in need. Thank you for helping to meet this need in our community!
